Mamy Louise is one of my favourite spots for lunch whenever I want to treat myself to something special. It has a mixed clientele, drawing the practitioners of the legal professions from the surrounding area, older couples all pimped up for a day out in the city centre and interpreters from the European institutions chattering away in various languages. The restaurant offers a typical brasserie menu, which includes salads, pasta, choice meats and fish.
For me, however, what nails it is its display of freshly-made desserts, including a deadly tiramisu, scrumptious strawberries and cream and my favourite, the café gourmand. This is an option found in various Brussels restaurants where you get your espresso accompanied by a small platter of sweet tasters from different desserts. But even if you don’t, you still get a bite-size chocolate brownie with your coffee! Oh, and by the way, don’t forget to book in; Mamy’s food is appreciated by many and it only opens for lunch!
