Voodoo Lounge is the best rock bar in town.
Despite the name, I don’t think there’s a lot of actual voodoo going on. So, don’t be alarmed by the poor pierced dolls hanging from the ceiling: their purpose is entirely decorative.
You’ll meet a lot of metal/rock chicks, people with tattoos and guys with beards, but the vibe is always friendly and welcoming and there’s no such thing as a dress code. To be honest I’m not really into rock music, but I still go to Voodoo because it’s such a nice place to hang out.
Sometimes on weekends there’s a DJ, but mostly it’s you, the guest, who’s in charge of the music by coin-feeding the all-rock jukebox.
It’s a relatively small bar, so keep in mind that on weekends it gets pretty crowded (and in summer very, very hot too).
If you want to buy a surprise drink for a friend, ask for a Black Avenger at the bar. I recommend you drink it at the bar: there’s a security deposit if you want to take it back to your table. It's a bit of a ritual for regulars who are in the company of someone who has never been to Voodoo before to do this. And no, I’m not going to tell you anything other than tequila is involved.
