One thing people don’t tend to talk about much is how bike friendly Frankfurt is. Outside of maybe a few streets next to the Central Train Station, I’ve never had much of a problem getting around the city by bike. Overall, the city is quite flat and the drivers are used to having cyclists on the road. If you’re visiting the city, I can highly recommend renting a bike to get around.
One of my favorite places to bike to is actually a former military airstrip that now goes by the name of Alter Flugplatz (old airstrip), where you’ll find plenty of people relaxing either by the river, in the park, or at the café that lies directly on site.
Whether you’re after a traditional coffee and cake (widely consumed at 4pm on Sundays), a beer or a plate of fries, the Alte Flugplatz has plenty of options to offer.
After a nice bike ride on the Nidda River, you would be hard-pressed not to stop here for some quick rest and relaxation. And fries. Preferably with beer.
