Old Sachsenhausen is starting to see a mini revolution in terms of its bar scene. The area has traditionally been a hotbed for bachelor parties and cheap drinks establishments, but there’s a new initiative to offer more than a haven for late-night binge drinkers.
One of the bars that’s really spurred the movement is Drinksmith, a lovely cocktail and craft beer bar located on one of Sachsenhausen’s hipper streets.
The owners of Drinksmith have transformed what was once a run-down and decrepit bar into a charming local with a nice assortment of drinks on hand. It’s one of the few places in Sachsenhausen where I know I can always have an IPA on draught, and I like the fact that the clientele are usually very international. The staff is very friendly and they’re all quite adept when it comes to whipping up a good cocktail.
I’d recommend Drinksmith if you’re looking for an alternative to the more “rustic” dive bars of the “Alt-Sachs” neighborhood. It’s one of my local favorites.
