You need to be careful when venturing into the bars of Alt-Sachs (old Sachsenhausen). Some of them are pretty run down, dirty, and it’s not uncommon for the bottoms of your shoes to stick to the floor.
Erdnüsschen is the exception to the rule, however.
As soon as you wander in you can’t help but be taken aback by the eclectic décor on the walls. The whole bar hums in a yellowish-orange glow, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that nothing has changed here in the last 40 years.
The bar staff is a bit more old-school and can come off as a bit grumpy, but before you know it they’re whipping out homemade cherry schnapps and drinking alongside the locals. The clientele is always a tossup. The times we’ve been here there’s been groups of soccer fans, LGBT crowds, business people, etc. There’s no typical customer here as far as I can tell.
Erdnüsschen is the bar that I bring visiting friends and family to. It’s a slice of Frankfurt that you’re less likely to see these days and always makes for a great time.
Get the hazelnut shots if they're in stock!
