Close to the Main River and next to the Old City is one of my favorite streets in Frankfurt. There are about 10 different galleries crammed onto a 200 meter street that I can’t help but stop at whenever I’m passing through.
Up until the 19th century this street used to be one of the busiest streets in Frankfurt. After most of it was bombed in World War II, new buildings were erected with the ground floors fashioned into dedicated art galleries.
These days you’ll rarely see the same art installation, and it’s always nice to pause and see what’s on display.  Even in the middle of the night, most of the galleries are well lit, and you can even stop by a kiosk that specializes in selling paintings next to refrigerators packed with German beer (Yok Yok).
The art is mostly contemporary and can be quite provocative, so if you’re into that kind of thing or just happen to be seeing the sights near the old town, I can highly recommend taking a stroll through the Fahrgasse.
