Most Italian restaurants are limited to pizza & pasta. One place with a very authentic Italian variety is the restaurant "L'unico". We visit this place regularly for weekend lunch with larger groups of friends.
The restaurant is close to the underground station "Westend" and offers an outdoor seating area (including radiating heaters for colder days) which is surrounded by a fence of green bushes that make you forget you're sitting right beside a street.
The staff is very attentive and tries to fulfill everyone's wishes. You'd like to alter one of the dishes on the menu? As long as the kitchen has the ingredients, it is going to be fulfilled, or they suggest a suitable alternative.
The regular menu holds a selection of pizzas (they're fantastic!) and homemade pastas. Before you order, be sure to ask for the chef's recommendations of the day- you will be offered a great variety with seasonally available ingredients. I rarely order anything from the menu besides their fabulous tiramisu dessert.
The grilled baby calamari on rocket salad is my favourite starter. All meat & fish is prepared typically Italian with fresh herbs & olive oil and comes with freshly steamed vegetables.
Concerning wines, trust the recommendations of your waiter, but ask for the price to avoid any surprises once you receive the bill. Expect to spend € 60 - € 80 per person for a three course menu including wine.
After dinner, the lounge area is inviting for another drink or two before moving on or heading home.
