Sunsets are marvelous on the river Main. Only here will photographers find some of the rare wide-open spaces to enjoy the spectacular view of the sunset and the skyline – the unique setting that can only be found in Frankfurt. The perfect spot for sunset pics is on a bridge of course: Flößerbrücke.

Hence it’s no wonder that local photographers with heavy equipment gather here at dusk and focus their lenses for the perfect sunset pic – be it a crispy cold winter afternoon or a mild and lovely summer night. There are so many that sometimes drivers passing the scene by car must wonder what was going on at the roadside on the bridge. Hookers, street workers, strange gatherings? That’s probably how this spot got its nickname: “Pixelstrich”.

Amateur and professional photographers started discussing the best lenses, ankles, tripods with each other and sharing best practices here. One of them, Charles, founded a group that now occasionally meets for photo walks and excursions together, always in search of the best spots for even better views of the city and the region… And some friendly competitions on social media.

Author Dieter Kaufmann even made “Pixelstrich” the crime scene in his second murder mystery novel available (in German) on Amazon. But no worries: in reality, everyone has survived the marvelous Frankfurt sunsets at Fößerbrücke. Take a risk, it’s worth your while.
