When you go to the neighborhood of Sachsenhausen you can’t miss the Ebbelwoi Kneipen (apple wine bars). They’re a staple of Frankfurt and particularly concentrated in that particular neighborhood. You can check out the review of a good one at Fichtekränzi as spotted by Spotter Alexandra Sepulveda.

When I first discovered Zur Schönen Müllerin I was surprised to find it so close to the city center, away from the apple wine district. Once you step inside, you can’t help but appreciate the décor and history on the walls. It’s clearly been a local’s joint for a long time. They also have a decent beer garden that’s great to enjoy when weather permits.

I love the apple wine they serve and always order the delightfully unhealthy Cheesy Schnitzel. If meat’s not your game, they have plenty of vegetarian options as well. The green sauce with hard boiled eggs is a weird but tasty local classic, and if you’re in luck, the white asparagus season will be in full effect.

I come back here routinely for the atmosphere, however. It’s clear the patrons love Zur Schönen Müllerin and it feels about as authentic as it gets.
