Ghent is a city filled with cool bars, so for owners it gets harder to stand out. Opening a bar in the outskirts of Ghent is the perfect way of thinking. Near the Dampoort there is a little borough called ‘Sint-Amandsberg’, it’s booming with all sorts of cool bars, each with their own concept. One of them is ‘De Roos’ and when you enter the bar you are dragged into a cosy, yet simple atmosphere. The interior has a kind of 70s design vibe, it feels like coming home after a very long trip.
Letting you travel to the outskirts of Ghent to just see the interior would be a little bit ridiculous, so trust me when I say that you won’t starve here. You can get a daily dish for a very good price. Every day the dish changes, and the kind of dish you get mostly depends on the season. It reminds me of the Sunday dinners you had at your grandmother’s house. Simple, no nonsense, but surprisingly good.
If you're feeling more like a little tea party, you're at the right address. They have really good tea and some cakes you can choose from. I highly recommend the cheesecake.
