On Sunday there is a main tradition in Ghent: we head to 'Kouter' square and stroll alongside the flower market. If you want to meet the real locals, this is the place to be.
Personally I am a big fan of the flower market on Sundays, when the whole square is covered by hundreds of colorful and aromatic flowers. In Ghent we're never in a hurry, so first things first: I invite myself for a lovely espresso on a chilly terrace. Second: the flowers. Who doesn't love a bunch of fresh flowers at home? And last but not least: I traditionally round up my flower visit with some fresh oysters and a glass of white wine at the Blue Kiosk on the square.
Make sure you pass by in the morning - there is also a small-scale version during the week and on Saturdays. However, my advice is to go for the full market on Sunday morning.
