Fisken på Disken, freely translated as "the fish is on the table", is one of the most interesting new restaurants in Helsinki, and is its first oyster bar and fish restaurant. The food comes from below sea level while the place is located high above in the Kortteli foodie court on the 5th floor of the Kamppi Shopping Center in the city center of Helsinki.
Kortteli is not a regular shopping mall food court, but actually a deli foodie court. The whole 5th floor includes 10 different restaurants and Fisken på Disken is located in the middle of it.
The guys at Fisken på Disken say a decent fish restaurant must have a perfect tartar and I must say they have nailed it. Meat lovers need not be disappointed, as there is at least one meat option on the menu as well. As for vegetarians, there are not too many options, but the chefs are always happy to prepare even a 5-course fully vegetarian tasting menu.
All in all, Fisken på Disken is a fine place for many different purposes. You can have a tasty lunch break or a tasting menu, stop by for a glass of sparkling wine and an oyster at the bar or have their pike perch fish 'n' chips for a relaxed dinner.
