This museum was recently reopened on the 4th of October 2013 and moved into a totally new modern building. It's one of the best museums in Turkey for those interested in maritime. Of course we are lucky to have it in İstanbul.
They have a variety of unique pieces, almost 20.000, and I think it's one of the world's most exceptional museums. The museum was originally established in 1897 and since then it has been one of the highlighted attractions for all.
The museum displays boats of the sultanate, naval uniforms, handwritten works, ship models, naval, maps, banners, galleys, sailing tools, figureheads and guns. Especially the museum shop has lovely stuff that you can take back home.
