Like you might already have heard, Portugal is THE PLACE in Europe if you are into fish and seafood. I would like to share with you the Champions League when it comes to quality seafood: Nune's Real Marisqueira.
Where I come from, hardly anybody eats seafood. So it took me some years to get used to sucking shells and breaking legs, but, oh boy, do I like it now!
This place has great service, as you expect from a good marisqueira. They have an amazing range of fresh seafood. To be honest, it is all good. If you choose wisely, you should not pay too much (it will never be cheap, though). But if you go crazy and go all "huge lobster" like I did last time, expect to pay handsomely. (The baby in the photo weighed 1.5 kg, was served sashimi style while the head was still moving. Then the head was grilled separately, as a kind of dessert. € 130...)
They also serve fish and some meat dishes (try the kobe beef or suckling pork), but who cares!
It is always full so book in advance. It is located in Belém near the Jerónimos Monastery, so why not a Monk & Mussels combo? You can go here for lunch, dinner or just an afternoon snack.
Don't forget to drink a lot of Sagres beer, the perfect fit with seafood!
