"O Descobre" is a 2-in-1 a restaurant and a gourmet shop. A friend of mine recommended it to me, I tried it out and must admit that I was pleasantly surprised.
The place reminded me of Alentejo, due to its friendly service (not always guaranteed in Lisbon), cozy atmosphere and great food. We let our waiter decide for us and just stuck to the eating. That turned out to be a great idea. A nice variety of typical Portuguese dishes, served to perfection and sometimes with a not-so-obvious twist. A great place for a relaxed meal during the week. Felt like a warm bath. They have a special lunch menu, but I have not tried it yet.
The crowd is mainly local. So do not expect any tourists.
The gourmet store has a range of mouth-watering regional products, including wine, cheese, sweets etc. Had to restrain myself! If you want you can choose to buy a bottle in the store and drink it with your diner. They will charge you 20% on top of the shop price. This is quite cheap and a great opportunity to splash out on one one of their fantastic wines.
It is located in Belem, a bit off the beaten track (hence the lack of huge crowds). Could be a nice combo with a visit to Belem (lunch) or a night out at the Cultural Center of Belem (CCB).
