There is a lively street in the old city centre of Ljubljana connecting the Town and the Old Square that offers the perfect mishmash of local and touristic. You will find a number of petit concept stores along it, but I would advise you to hold onto your wallet until you reach the middle of it. Almost exactly where the street name changes from Town Square into Old Square you will find GUD shop – fear not walking in, there is a little something suitable for every pocket!
The name alone promises quality (“gud” is how Slovenians would phonetically write down English word “good”), but it also works as an abbreviation for Gruden Učkar Design. In it, you will find the best currently hip international and Slovenian products that work perfectly as gifts or souvenirs. As a huge supporter of local art my hint would be to spend your “ka-ching” on whatever product made by Hana Stupica. She sells not only art prints, notebooks, pins, socks and shirts with her illustrations, but also motives from cult illustrator and her adorable granny Marlenka, wife of one of the most important Slovenian modernist painters Gabriel Stupica (whose paintings you can admire in the Modern gallery).
