Lalo! is owned by the famous Mexican chef Eduardo García and his wife Gabriela López. They are a huge success thanks to their first restaurant: Maximo Bistrot, opened in 2011 and considered among the best restaurants in Latin America.
Maximo is great but a little bit posh and fancy, while Lalo! is more informal, laid-back, cooler and serves breakfast. Of course, the food is great at both locations because García is obsessed with fresh, locally produced ingredients.
Lalo! is a great place to have breakfast or brunch. My favourites from their menu are the “chilaquiles verdes” (fried tortilla chips served with green chilli sauce, fresh cream, cheese, two fried eggs, onion and coriander), the home-made chorizo frittata and the scrambled egg and bacon sandwich. If you were partying the night before, you have to try their Bloody Mary.
From the lunch/dinner menu my favourite dishes are: the roasted octopus (served with mashed potatoes), the rice with wild mushrooms, the rib-eye burger and the bacon, prosciutto and provoleta pizza.
Lalo! gets a little bit crowded on weekends (especially for breakfast & brunch) so you may have to wait before getting a table, but be patient: it’s worth it.
