What's the most important for any traveler? To experience as many new authentic traditions of a new city/country's spirit as possible. How to get it? By meeting locals AND by immersing oneself in the best performances. For me it's "The Lion King" in London; "Ka", Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas and the Juno and Avos in Moscow (an opera from the '80s). I refer to this performance to "all or nothing" issues. So if you plan to dive into Russian culture attend this one.
Buy an electronic ticket beforehand and read the story prior to the show! This rock performance is based on historical events of the 19th century. The brilliant soviet opera was written by famous composer Alexey Rybnikov, made by one of the talented Russian art directors Mark Zakharov who gathered the best actors on one stage. Dances were engineered by Russian ballet master Vladimir Vasiliev.
BTW Pierre Cardin brought "Juno and Avos" to Paris in 1983. It was success.
The opera is performed in Estrada and Lenkom theatres. Check before visiting!
For me "Juno and Avos" is a breathtaking experience!
