Powerhouse lives true to its name. One of my favorite hangouts, it has an amazing ambiance. The wonderful relaxing effect of sinking in an armchair sipping a cocktail — usually something whiskey-based — can only be compared to Savasana.
There is always something going on — a party, a jazz session, a movie screening and a lecture, a standup show or a live band. They also have theater nights, when they lend the stage for play readings, a performance or a show. If you speak Russian, check it out; if not, come for a jazz jam or a gig — thankfully, music doesn’t need translation. Sometimes on the weekends, Powerhouse will also host a brunch or a market for vinyl, clothes, or food.
As for food, they have a tempting menu, but I somehow never tried anything — this may or may not be connected to the fact that Jagannath (check the article 'Jagannath - Indian delight') is located within a 5-minute walk. Anyway, they serve real food, hearty and filling, not the usual bar stuff. It's nice to know that they won't let you starve, especially if you come at noon for a market, stay for a lecture, then find yourself dancing to some crazy DJ set after midnight.
