Kantýna restaurant is the first place to eat while in the city centre. I bring here my foreign friends while in Prague. Right in the city center, locally sourced Czech meat, draft beer and a butcher even for take outs.
The former bank palace was rebuilt into a canteen, a spacious place with an Art Nouveau interior, art-deco patterns and a symbol of bone. For me, roast marrow bones would be one of the most interesting choices; second would be carpaccio and third dry-aged beef tartare.
All three of them are something to remember, something you most probably haven't tried before, not prepared like this. We are talking about Czech cuisine, but it is done differently, with high-quality ingredients and a lot of love for gastronomy.
A very interesting dessert is 'buchtičky se šodó', which I would highly recommend. Kantýna is a noisy place where you get your ticket, you order from already prepared meals or the second option is to order your favourite piece of meat at the butcher's counter and you enjoy it few minutes later.
