The National Museum in Prague was reopened to the public a few years ago after more than 42 months of reconstruction. Not only the museum but also very important intervention in the museum's surroundings was developed by architects from IPR (Prague Institute of Planning and Development). The reconstruction was made together with a connecting corridor that connects the Historical and New Buildings of the National Museum – don't miss this part with a lovely projection of Czech history.
The National Museum (NM) is dedicated to natural science, and it was founded in 1818. It houses more than 14 million items in various museum buildings. The main building is the one on Wenceslas Square, and you will need many hours or even a full day to enjoy it properly. The monumental main hall and its main staircase are the one part of the museum that you will remember. Visitors are also allowed to the newly accessible dome that offers an amazing view of Wenceslas Square and Prague's panorama.
A very popular exhibition is called The Miracles of Evolution, where rare animals are shown in their natural habitat and out of common regular shelves you are used to seeing in museums. The 22.5-meter-long whale is the symbol of the National Museum. The NM also includes an exhibition about prehistoric times, describing it in a playful and colourful way.
There are many shops, cafes, bistros and other places to take a break. You will find different options in the new building as well as the old one.
