This Neo-Renaissance building was founded in 1885, and the museum opened its doors at the end of the 19th century. UPM aims to show how arts and crafts and design influence our daily life, our way of thinking through the centuries and how important esthetics are for human behaviour (like rituals or celebrations, the power of liturgical objects and much more). The museum currently still collects and purchases new items and creates beautiful collaborations and exhibitions during the whole year. UPM shows a vast display of arts and crafts created in Bohemia, glass and ceramics objects, jewellery, graphic design and much more. It shows applied arts from the Middle Ages until the 21st century.
The museum has been recently renovated by well-known Czech contemporary artists and designers. Also, the museum shop is worth your visit. The shop offers a lot of pieces from Czech artists and designers, in particular a nice selection of design publications, glass pieces and porcelain, jewellery and stationery gifts but also wooden toys created by renowned Czech artists.
Also, the museum's restaurant is quite lovely, the Mediterraen touch is a nice change in the centre of Prague, good coffee is a plus.
