I still remember when I moved to Prague in early 2019, I didn’t know many places, mostly some beaten paths exhaustedly recommended by uninteresting YouTubers. Living in Nusle neighborhood was a full plate to discover local bars and shops in the Czech capital. U Bansethů is still, for sure, one of the greatest traditional restaurants I have come across in the whole of Prague.
This legendary 100+ years old bar and restaurant, which even appears in some classic Czech novels is a neighborhood complex that comprehends not only the traditional restaurant, but also a down-to-earth bakery, a brewery and a coffee shop (located in the Bratří Synků square, just one block away from its long-standing location).
The first restaurant door is the traditional bar where Pilsner Urquell rules, but the second door is neighborhood brewery (Sousedský pivovar Bašta) where 5 different beer types wait for you, and also their mascot Gustik, a lovely and loud bird. Besides their fresh beer, the U Bansethů specialises in (but does not serve only) duck and goose dishes, so feel free to indulge yourself in these traditional Czech dishes. Recently they started to take cards, but I suggest you to bring some cash just to be on the safe side.
One tip: come hungry and thirsty.
