Rijeka is not a city with a lot of parks. In fact, it doesn't even have a lot of green spots. So, it is really a blessing that between the Croatian National Theater "Ivan pl. Zajc" and the open city market one park has found its place.
Kazališni park did not always look the way it looks now. It has been restructured in three phases since 2005. Nowadays, Kazališni park has all the necessary infrastructure -- from park paths, benches and lighting to wheelchair paths. In the middle of the park a statue of Ivan pl. Zajc, a famous Croatian composer born in Rijeka, has found its place. The statue is watching over the park and theater. I think he still wants to have everything under control. Apart from the statue of the famous Croatian composer, in the park you can also find 9 roses that bear musical and theatrical names like Charleston, Hendel, Concerto, Concertino, Conductor, Solo, Primabalerina, Maria Callas, Ballet. While you are admiring one of the nine roses, don't be startled by the pigeons and seagulls everywhere around you looking for a food. Some people like to feed them, but I do not recommend it.
I think Kazališni park is a really nice place to take a rest between sightseeing the center of the city. You can enjoy a beautiful view of an impressive theater building while eating fresh fruit from the city market. And most importantly, at least for me, Kazališni park is a really photogenic spot.
