Sometimes you happen to stumble upon some treasures you didn’t even know existed. Those hidden treasures are for me one of the best things about Rotterdam. A new and impressive treasure I recently discovered is an art mural located in the Oude Noorden in Rotterdam.
In March 2017, Sebastian Velasco and Telmo Miel made a collaborative art mural. Velasco and Telmo Miel are world-renowned artists who have painted walls all over the world. Telmo Miel (a duo) are from Rotterdam, so they must were happy to paint in their own city. They named the mural ‘Hit the Lights’ and it is over four stories high. It represents a man who holds a bag and looks at the nearby Noordplein. He looks kind of sad and one wonders what he is thinking about or why he is sad.
With its black, blue and purple the mural is a definite eyecatcher and it enlivens an otherwise boring wall. No wonder the city subsidized it. It is situated in a street where few people pass by themselves, but it is definitely worth a special visit if you’re into murals, art or anything beautiful in particular.
