As a Spanish international student living in Rotterdam, I’m always on the lookout for authentic ingredients to cook dishes from home. Something to bring a little Madrid flavor into my Dutch student life. While going on a run around Feijenoord, I stumbled upon a store named ‘Iberia-La Española’ and it felt like I’d uncovered a little piece of Spain. It’s a store which sells products imported just from Spain and is owned by a Spanish couple who have always lived in the Netherlands.
This family-run shop has been around for over 50 years and is one of the oldest and most extensive Spanish specialty stores in the Netherlands. Today, it’s run by Björn and Linda, a passionate duo keeping Spanish flavors alive in Rotterdam. Björn grew up in the business, stacking shelves as a kid and later returning to carry on the legacy. Together with Linda, who brings her own background in butchery and cheese, they’ve transformed the store into a charming mix of supermarket and delicatessen—with a focus on quality, tradition, and local warmth.
From jamón ibérico and manchego to croquetas, turrón, and Rioja wine, the shop has everything to satisfy your Spanish cravings. It’s also a welcoming space where you can chat with the owners, soak up the atmosphere, and feel a little closer to home—whether you're Spanish or just a fan of the cuisine.
