I've always had a thing for restaurant entrances. My first experience at Pier 39 was at Fog Harbor Fish House. While reservations are suggested, the waiting area is charming, with sofas, chairs, and a cozy fireplace if you don't have one. The staff was friendly, and I was promptly shown to my table. Upon entering, the restaurant was, as expected, nautical in design and very polished. You can be seated indoors or out, but I chose inside because Mark Twain was not wrong when he said, "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."
Appetizers were the order of the day since I can't even imagine eating the large entreés and salad and dessert. I opted for Ahi Tuna Poke and Mussel Fries, neither of which I'd ever had, so it was a tasty treat. Pair those with a lovely Sauvignon Blanc, and you have a meal that is delicious and just right portion-wise.
All in all, Fog Harbor Fish House is a total winner. The food is incredible, the people are friendly, and it won't break your wallet. Go. You know you want to.
