Attention: this place is truly for cat fanatics. While most people are not cat people, I happen to love playing with them, and when this cat cafe opened around the corner from my apartment, I was eager to check it out.
The first cat cafe in San Francisco draws playful cat enthusiasts as well as eager adopters. The shop opened in 2015 and has since seen over 200 cats and kittens find their furrever homes. The cafe partners with local rescue organizations so they bring in cats and kittens, allow people to play with them, then allow adoptions through the cafe. It's been a huge success so far, and it's great to see so many animals needing homes find a happy place to live.
Visiting the cafe is very relaxing and the space is beautiful. You can make a reservation for 30 minutes or an hour online or see if they have availability for walk-ins. You get a free cup of Japanese tea during your visit, then enter the cat lounge and play! The kitties are all super friendly and I had a wonderful hour snuggling with my new friend, Eric.
