The Walt Disney Family Museum is a treasure trove of never before seen concept sketches, home movies, and more history than you know what to do with.
Located in one of the most beautiful spots in the Presidio, the museum offers a separate building for visiting exhibits as wells as movies. Each month is a different animated feature, which is included in the price of admission. Or if you just want see a film, it is $ 7. Who wouldn't want to see Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella on the big screen?
The primary focus of the museum is not Disneyland, though there is a section dedicated to that magical place. Rather, it focuses on the life and trials of Walt Disney. (The 1930s were a bit rough.)
And unlike so many American families of the time, the Disney family was able to capture home-life on film. My favorite aspect of the exhibits is the oral history provided by Walt and other members of the Disney family.
If you plan on seeing the feature film, I would set aside at least 5 hours to spend at the museum, or more if you would like to wander the area. On a clear day, there are excellent views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
