The Latin bridge, also known as Princip’s Bridge, was built sometime in middle of the 16th century. It spans over river Miljacka in four arches and rests on three pillars in all its glory.
It was made infamous as the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, as this pivotal event marked the start of World War I, and the assassinator Gavrilo Princip was named a hero during the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
It’s truly a monument worth visiting and discovering. It holds a special place in the hearts of many people who live in Sarajevo. As it’s close to a few schools, it’s the place where many young people even had their first kiss.
There’s just a different energy to it that is worth experiencing. So if you visit, go there during sunset, give yourself five minutes to enjoy the view and take a deep breath. It’s worth it.
