Not many metropolises have the luxury Skopje has – to be located only 10 minutes driving or 2 hours walking to mount Vodno, along with its Krstovar peak (1066 meters high).
Vodno is so close and you can get there in many ways: by climbing, by public bus transport to Middle Vodno, by motorcycle, or by bike. Or by cable car from Middle Vodno to the top of the mountain, right under the Millenium Cross. It depends on your desire and mood. In spring, early fall or during the summer (in the early morning hours) I choose to climb on Vodno along the many marked paths, which are surprisingly interesting at every step and have a lot of trees and flowers on the way.
The best days to come here are from Monday to Friday, when the mountain is quiet and there are not many people present. Then I can feel the beauty to the maximum. And when I want to rest and relax, I choose a rope railway. At the top, I always buy hot coffee or tea in the little market store, sit on a bench and enjoy the 360 degree view. From one side, you can see all of Skopje and from the other the weekend village Sonje. All the mountains from East, West, South and North are in front your eyes.
Vodno is a perfect place for taking deep breath and recharging energy after days of hard work in the city. Green, fresh and with awesome landscape. And yet, so close.
