Monteliusvägen on the island of Södermalm offers one of the most breathtaking views of the city. It starts at Bastugatan 16 in the east and runs all the way to Kattgränd. It is a narrow pathway that runs along the heights of the northern part of the island and offers a magnificent view of the City Hall on the island of Kungsholmen, Riddarholmen, the old town and the bay Riddarfjärden. It isn't paved, but offers several terraces and park benches to sit down to rest or just enjoy the view. Pro-tip: if the weather is nice you might want to stop at StikkiNikki (check out the article) on your way there and grab one of their huge, yummy ice creams to accompany you.
You can access the tiny parks Ivar Los park and Olle Adolphsons park from this 416 meter long trail. They both feel like old-fashioned gardens.
If you are lucky enough to visit Stockholm over New Years Eve, this is a great spot to look at the fireworks from. Make sure to arrive early, as you will not be the only person with that idea…
You can get here by taking the red subway line heading south from the Central Station and getting off at Mariatorget. Then it is a 600m walk through a historically interesting part of town, with lots of beautiful buildings.
