People in Tampere are crazy for one food: chicken wings. Everyone wants to eat them! My definite favourite place for them is the original SiipiWeikot Tampere.
I go and enjoy this delicacy of Tampere at least once a month, usually with my mom. We both just love the chicken wings! Twice a year, I meet up with my two special and dear friends there, too, and we enjoy chicken wings with some beer and cider. And, of course, catch up.
The restaurant itself is located in the middle of the city on Aleksanterinkatu, which also is called "the restaurant street" of Tampere. Once in the restaurant, you can bump into Finnish NHL hockey players, singers, artists, your friends or ex-colleagues. Especially on Sundays, the place is full of restaurant workers who are off enjoying excellent comfort food.
I always order my chicken wings with medium sauce. There are more sauces with different level of spiciness, such as mild, hot, XX-hot and Kamikaze. Try the last one if you want to get sweat running down your face, it's REALLY SPICY!
Other than chicken wings, there are also delicious snacks: mozzarella sticks, jalapeños filled with cheese, onion rings and of course many sorts of French fries. And you can flush them all down with a cold beer or cider.
To become a real Tampere guy or girl, you better go for chicken wings. And who knows, you might bump into an NHL hockey player...
