Muumimuseo (the Moomin museum) is the home of the Moomins, characters created by Swedish-speaking Finnish illustrator Mrs. Tove Jansson. And I can say proudly that the world's only Moomin museum is located in Tampere!
These round fairy tale characters with large snouts actually look like hippopotamuses. And kids just love them. There are many books written about Moomins by Mrs. Jansson, and many of them made into films or TV-series.
This museum is definitely a place to visit also for an adult: it's a magical, dark place, where you can find out the whole story of the Moomins since they were born. The pieces of art, paintings and miniature models of the whole Moomin story can be found at the museum.
A reading room with plenty of books about the Moomins, as well as a studio and a shop, can be found at Tampere-talo also, the place where the museum is located.
I had a chance to visit the Moomin museum at the opening party a few years back. I certainly found the inner Moomin in me, so why wouldn't you, too? Go and discover your inner Moomin at the museum as well!
