Not very long ago the city of Tbilisi began buzzing about socks. Yes, you heard me right, a certain sock store started taking off and soon enough, the citizens always being prone to eating up new trends in a nick of a second, a pair of socks became a perfect birthday present.
Altersocks is a Georgian store that sells socks but also offers shoe ties and if you are a weirdo like me - always wearing a pair of socks, regardless of the season - you are going to appreciate pieces of literal art on your feet.
The store does not only have classic pieces of art sewn onto the fabric but pieces of Georgian culture and cuisine as well. Tiny Khinkalis or Adjarian Khachapuris make the socks look cute and cool at the same time. You will also come across phrases that define Gen Z, or be struck with nostalgia for old traditional games such as Xs and Os and storks (make sure you find a Georgian friend to explain to you the game of storks, it’s full of joy and adrenaline).
So, basically, if you don’t want to spend too much on souvenirs and you want your takeaway to be original and impressive, make sure you grab a pair of Khinkali socks and walk around with pride of knowledge about the sacred rules of eating it.
The "Bank of Georgia Headquarters" in Tbilisi reminded me of Jenga blocks the first time I saw it. I find it creates harmony between human space & nature.
