The hangout area of Donaukanal in Vienna is a centrally located hotspot at the waterfront. So, if you like popular places, this is where you should navigate to! Find a less crowded tip at the end. ;)
The Viennese have a close relationship with water, be it because Austria does not have any sea access or because it is the main ingredient in both beer and wine... We have super-tasty tap water here, coming directly from the Alps. And we are grateful for the Danube running through our beautiful city, making Vienna even more awesome. Next to Donauinsel, the canal area offers fine outdoor spots during the warm months. My favorite places around here:
Badeschiff is one of two spots at the Donaukanal I warmly recommend - if you want to know about the many reasons why: read on in my article about the ship with the pool! And Hafenkneipe is an often overlooked gem in the area, a bit down the stream. It's just a 10-minute walk from the public transport stop "Schwedenplatz", on the left side (you can spot it in my photo, the small hut right before the bridge).
