The most comprehensive guide to free outdoor movie spots this summer in Vienna 🙂
A wide selection of films mostly screened in OVs awaits you at Volxkino [until September 15]. Due to changing locations not always being as packed as other places, I still advise you to come early for seats or bring a blanket!
Looking for a pedal-powered experience? Then check the CycleCinemaClub’s dates. The organizers of Kaleidoskop [June 30 – July 14] hope to encourage visitors to the film fest to consider a change of perspective and try hard to make their movies accessible.
Music Film Festival on Rathausplatz features concerts [July 2 – September 4]. Or come to MQ for the frameout film festival [July 14 – Sep 2].
A classic is the silent movie mini-festival Stumm & Laut in August [August 18-19].
Do you love architecture? Head to Architektur.Film.Sommer [August 2 – 23].
The dotdotdot short film festival suggests: pay as you can [July 30 – August 29]. And if you cannot go there, you can instead stream 500+ short movies for free on their page!
Nice yet with admission (ca. €9) open-air cinemas:
There is the one on top of Vienna’s public library [June 1 – Sept 10] and Kino Wie Noch Nie at Augarten Park [June 22 – August 20], or you vote for the film to be screened at Silent Cinema and then dig your toes into the sand of Herrmann Strandbar.
OR, turn your sun-roof into a star-roof at 2020 re-opened Autokino to watch a drive-in movie on a Saturday night.
“Roll it!”
