Wotruba Church Vienna

I had been planning to do another shot of this wonderful piece of art by Fritz Wotruba for a looong time. I won't lie to you, it is somewhat far from the center, but decide for yourself: is it worth the travel? I definitely think so! Wotruba piled up those 152 concrete blocks without any apparent symmetry. I believe the piles form a harmonious whole with narrow windows of variable height.

Since this church is located in an outlying district, it will take you up to 75 minutes to get there, including a walk up the hill for about two kilometers. Yaaay, you get to exercise a bit, too. However, if you think, "I paid for public transport and want to get the maximum in return!" → here’s your how-to:

Take the underground line U4 till “Hietzing” [about 45 minutes to go from here] | switch to tram 60 until “Maurer Hauptplatz” | change to bus 60A till "Kaserngasse". From there, it’s only a short walk up the hill.

In case you are still bursting with energy, continue on the path behind the church. It leads to Sterngarten, an open-air planetarium for star-gazing – or just a nice walk in nature. Many people come here with their dogs. The church opens its doors only on weekends, yet is more impressive from the outside anyway. However, I've added some rare shots of the interior (which is usually filled with benches and such).
