On a hill above Maksimir Park, there is a small hotel called “Vila Tina”, one of Zagreb’s hidden jewels. It has a nice terrace bathed in the sun, ideal for summer days, but even more special is its interior. The small restaurant on the ground floor is decorated in rich, baroque-like manner, with heavy golden frames around pictures and mirrors, plaster statues and decorations, multiple colours, velvety chairs... I don't believe it’s for everyone, but to me it fits perfectly with the ambient and the traditional cuisine it is offered. Also, it is something different and a little unexpected, in the time when minimalist or modern interior design is everywhere.
I like going to Vila Tina for breakfast with my family and friends. It is a quiet place that provides privacy. The breakfast is very tasty and a great value for money. It’s an all-you-can-eat kind of breakfast: eggs (boiled, scrambled, omelettes), bread and toast, jams, nutella, yogurts, cakes, seasonal fruit... and of course, coffee, tea and juice! It’s actually a perfect place for brunch because you get so full that you can easily skip lunch. Never is it so crowded that you need a reservation or you can’t hear the person sitting next to you. Vila Tina is my favourite spot for relaxed, drawn-out brunches and coffees.
