This will not be a story about the male half of the band The Mamas & The Papas. I am talking about a burger joint in the heart of Zagreb. THE burger joint, where fast food is taken seriously, and more importantly, Uncle Sam style. Papa's bar, decorated in the genuine American bar style and with drinks served in Mason jar replicas (marmalade jars, the real ones are quite hard to acquire), respires with the spirit of the USA.
Hamburgers come in 5 different variations - hamburger, cheeseburger, BBQ, Papa's and Farmburger. I suggest the BBQ burger on which you will find a delightful chunk of crusty bacon. You can try all these hamburgers in two different meat sizes – 140g and 180g. With visible difference between pommes frites and roasted potatoes, and important accompaniments like Heinz ketchup and different kinds of Tabasco, you are set for a divine hamburger meal.
Every great hamburger usually comes along with a great beer offer, so Papa's is no exception. There is quite a good selection of local and imported beers. Here you will find Nikšićko, Velebitsko, Vukovarsko, Sarajevsko, Mardsous and a star among Croatian beers – San Servolo (light beer & red beer) from a small Istrian town. And in case you are not that much into beer, maybe a famous cocktail like a mojito will be your choice... some say here they make the best in the city.
