If you visit Zagreb, at some point you will most likely find yourself on the main square – Trg bana Jelačića. It is the centre and the beating heart of this city, full of people, locals and tourists at the same time. Bars, cafes, restaurants and much more all can be found here. But if you are a hungry seafood lover and take a walk a few minutes down Jurišićeva street, you will find a hidden gem that locals have loved for more than four decades.

Ribice kod Mimice was first opened in 1945 as a winery. Four years later, they decided to do simple fish dishes. And they still make the same dishes today. During this whole time, they kept the old and simple decor. That is why locals love it. Today, people come here to eat because everything looks and tastes the same as when they were kids. Today, they bring their own kids. And grandkids.

This place doesn’t offer a sumptuous menu, but what’s on the menu is made with perfection. The daily offer includes fried sprat, calamari, hake, mackerel, smelt and sardines. Side dishes are simple like bread, french fries or classic Croatian potatoes with chard. The Adriatic Sea is a blessing that enables us to have daily access to fresh and high-quality seafood plates. With the globalisation and digitalisation of the modern world, one could say that Ribice kod Mimice successfully swims against the current!
