Between Selnau station and Schanzengraben, you will pass an unpretentious small takeaway restaurant in Selnaustrasse. It's worth going inside.
Two ladies are busy cooking in the open kitchen, and there is a fine selection of vegetarian and meat or fish dishes with rice to take away. There are a few places to sit, but most clients come for pick-up or order online for delivery. Many working people from the surrounding stores and offices come by for a quick lunch. It's also a great place to stock up for a picnic in the old botanical garden, for example.
From Monday to Friday, there are several dishes of the day (including veggies), which cost between CHF 15.50 and 22.50. The portions are good, and the food is fresh and yummy. Subas and Lea, the hosts, have been running their small restaurant for many years and prefer to use regional, seasonal ingredients. The service is friendly and fast. This is a good value for money place in the city center.
My favorite is vegetable rice with lentils, potatoes, spicy sauce, and crispy papadam.
