While coffee specialty shops pop up on literally every corner of Amsterdam, White Label Coffee is one of the few spots for coffee aficionados in Amsterdam West. It’s like White Label Coffee is a synapse on the life line that connects the west, De Baarsjes, to the rest of the civilized world. In a shopping street, which is dominated by telephone shops, cheap cosmetics, snack bars and a notorious gambling hall, White Label sticks out, if you just need your shot, or bring your laptop to hang out for a while.
There’s free Wifi, of course, and in-house roasted coffee of different blends and tastes. When I ordered my first espresso, my first impression was “wow – this tastes different”. A rich flavored, full body of taste, almost sweet, almost no bitterness. Then I realized that this place is not so much about its setting – it’s all about coffee.
Well, you can always learn a thing or two: what in the coffee brewing process is a double shot naked? That’s when the coffee exits the brewing unit of the coffee machine without the nozzle. Which gives your espresso a better crema, and a fuller taste. Why? Ask the guys at White Label Coffee themselves. For people who are picky about their coffee taste: the guys here know what they’re doing.
At the moment there are roasts from Costa Rica, Brazil, Ethiopia, Guatemala. You can order them online as well.
