When De need van Fred first opened in 2021, I was a skeptic: the cafe that was there before was a place I grew up with and somehow I became a traditional woman that wanted everything in the neighborhood to stay the same. So when I first visited De neef van Fred, my bar was high. Luckily, they pleasantly surprised me. The interior is small, yet cozy, but what really makes this spot a good one is their terrace.
The terrace has three layers: one is the obvious terrace right in front of the cafe. The second one is picnic tables across the street and the third one is the best one - right next to the water and not visible when you walk on the street, a true hidden gem!
They created a terrace that makes you feel like you are basically in the water, with a little bar next to it. A lot of boats float by and get a quick drink for on-the-go. It is fun to see and creates a cozy atmosphere. One thing: If you go, bring sunscreen! The place gets a lot of sun, but stay safe!
