One of the first shops I stumbled upon in my first year in Amsterdam was the Posthumus Winkel, and honestly, it still feels magical every time I go back to it. Hidden right in the city centre, on a side street from the famous shopping street Kalverstraat, this little treasure has been around since 1865.
Inside, you’ll find yourself surrounded by stamps of every kind you can imagine, from company and notary stamps to wax seals, embossing stamps, even ones for wood, leather, pottery, or chocolate. Yes, chocolate! They’re full of surprises.
But it’s not just about stamps. The shelves are filled with beautiful Italian stationery, elegant cards and envelopes, and old-school writing sets with feather dip pens and ink that make you want to sit down and write letters again. If you’re into crafting, their hobby stamp collection (with endless ink pad colours) is one of the biggest in Europe.
My favourite corner? The Famous Wall of Wax, a wall covered in wax stamps with letters and symbols, plus every colour of wax stick you could think of. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, explore, and maybe leave with something unique.
