There’s something about Entrepotdok that always makes me pause and breathe a little deeper. An area of old warehouses that were repurposed into beautiful homes, it feels like a hidden stretch of calm in the city. It’s the kind of place where you can wander along the water and admire the flowers growing along the sidewalk, or try to catch a glimpse of the animals at the nearby Artis Zoo, and admire the houseboats.
The rows of monumental 19th-century warehouses, now turned into homes, with their brick facades glowing in the afternoon light, are amazing. So are the roses that bloom in all colours at the beginning of summer. It’s not the most obvious spot for visitors, but for me, it’s one of those corners of Amsterdam that feels both historic and quietly alive, a perfect blend of city and serenity.
And when I’m done walking along Entrepotdok, I love going to the nearby Cafe Plantage, where I can watch the flamingoes from the zoo, being pretty and majestic right there in the middle of the city.
