This ice cream shop in the heart of the 'De Jordaan' neighborhood, is the absolute best. Generations of Amsterdam inhabitants have known about this place. Monte Pelmo was founded in 1957 and they have had a shop at this address since 1981. My family is an example of these generations of customers:
In the summertime after dinner, my family and I would take our bikes and go to Monte Pelmo to get dessert. After swimming lessons, we got a Monte Pelmo scoop as a reward. When I graduated high school, me and my classmates went and got 2 scoops each after the graduation ceremony. Therefore it was not a surprise, that when my little sister was old enough to find a job, she started working at Monte Pelmo! Her reasons? It was nice, she knew the place well and she could bring back free ice cream for the family.
As you can see this spot has a special place in my heart and I think I speak for all of Amsterdam when I tell you: please go there if you are in the neighborhood. And if you really can't pick what you want out of all the flavors they offer: try the limoncello ice cream.
