Amsterdam is a city that knows how to celebrate markets, and one of the most special is the Pure Markt. This travelling Sunday market pops up in three green locations: Frankendael Park, Amstelpark and the Amsterdamse Bos, and it feels almost like a little festival.
Around 70% of the stalls are dedicated to food, though it’s less about fruit and vegetables and more about freshly prepared dishes, artisanal ingredients and treats that are hard to resist. The rest of the market is a mix of design, crafts, clothing, cosmetics and unique handmade products, so there’s always something new to discover.
The atmosphere is lively, with music, dancing, and activities for children. Families, neighbours and friends gather to eat (the oyster stall is always busy), drink (prosecco always goes with oysters), shop, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon outdoors. What makes the
Pure Markt stands out for its focus on organic, locally produced food. You can chat directly with the growers and makers, taste their creations, and even get advice or inspiration for your own cooking.
It’s not a weekly market, so you’ll need to check the schedule on their website, but whenever it takes place, it’s a joyful way to spend a Sunday in Amsterdam.
