Right in the heart of Amsterdam’s busy city centre lies a quiet oasis where visitors can pause, rest, and recharge. Surrounding the Rijksmuseum, the gardens are freely accessible to the public and offer a serene contrast to the lively Museumplein.
The gardens feature seasonal flowerbeds, water fountains where kids like to play, and, every summer, an open-air art exhibition showcasing sculptures by renowned artists. They have a French-inspired look & feel which I really like.
It’s also a wonderful spot for people-watching, and it’s almost surprising how peaceful it feels. It’s like you enter another world when you step through the doors.
During the warmer months, the garden comes alive with creative activities. Painting workshops invite participants to unleash their inner Rembrandt, while occasional sculpting and embroidery courses offer other ways to explore artistic expression. Benches tucked among the greenery make it a perfect place to read, sketch, or simply enjoy a quiet moment.
