I was out with Mario, my friend pictured above. "I'm hungry", I told him, while we were finishing our beer somewhere on Irakleidon St in Thisseio. "I know just the place!", he replied. And he was right.
Often, burger joints aren't the best for vegetarians such as myself. You know, they offer a wide variety on what should be served over or under the patty but little choice concerning the patty itself (or so it feels). Not so in FOOD Str, where the Parmesan and mushroom burger I discovered with great delight on the menu proved once again that meat is far from necessary, even at a place like this. For €3.30 it was unfortunately on the small side, but the flavour made up for it. My friend had fish and chips, also a specialty of this spot.
With "hip, but the somehow cool, not the obnoxious sort" written all over the rest of its menu (and decoration) and its central location - close to the ancient stuff as well as where all the action happens - I do think FOOD Str has done something right. If you're in the wider Psyrri, Plaka, Monastiraki or Thisseio area and feel like murdering a burger before or after the drinks, look no further.

Although Kalos Aeras is located on a busy road, there is no noise penetrating the leafy veranda, and stepping into the house is like time-traveling back to the 60s.
